(Madeira Health Service lab). Next week, Covid-19 testing will continue to be carried out on staff from the health, civil protection and social services.
The SRS 24 helpline (Regional Health Service – 800 24 24 20) received 233 calls in the last 7 days, bringing the total number of calls to 8,264.
The Covid-19 mental health helpline (219 212 399 – available every day from 9h00 to 21h00) that was set up to provide emotional and mental support to Madeira residents received 116 calls in the last 7 days. A further 11 people are being
monitored. Overall, it has received 1,159 calls, with 133 people being monitored.
Changes to mandatory quarantine policy
The period of mandatory quarantine for all passengers
arriving in Madeira was reduced to a week. Testing will be carried out in hotels. After a week, if the Covid-19 test is negative the passengers will be allowed to leave hotel quarantine. However, they will continue to be monitored by
the health authorities and will be tested again on the 14th day since their arrival. This change in policy allowed the Regional Government to overcome the increasing number of Habeas Corpus applications against the quarantine policy.
Habeas Corpus application
The second Habeas Corpus application, submitted by a male passenger, had the same outcome as the first application. In other words, the health authorities allowed him to leave hotel quarantine at Hotel Vila Galé after his Covid-19 test
came back negative.
Campaign “Ajuda Vale” raised 23 tons of food
According to Grupo Jerónimo Martins (owners of Pingo Doce) and Sonae (owners of Continente), 19 tons of food were donated through the campaign “Ajuda Vale”. Another 4 tons of food were donated through the online campaign launched in
March on the website (www.alimentestaideia.pt). These goods will be donated to the Banco Alimentar da Madeira warehouse, which will then distribute them for
free to other institutional partners. This campaign took place on all 27 Pingo Doce and Continente stores in Madeira, from the 22nd and 31st of May.
