Covid-19 cases likely to increase with reopening of tourism

Pedro Ramos, admitted that the reopening of Madeira to
tourism, from the 1st of July, is likely to cause the number of Covid-19 cases to increase. According to him, all World Health Organisation guidelines are being implemented in Madeira. He said the Madeira Regional Government intends to
continue to protect Madeira’s people and economy.

He also stressed that the main danger will not come from tourists, but from Madeira and Porto Santo residents who fail to comply with the relevant safety guidelines. From the 1st of July, all passengers landing in Funchal and Porto
Santo must present evidence of a negative Covid-19 test that had been carried out up to 72h before the start of the journey. Alternatively, Covid-19 testing, paid for by the Madeira Regional Government, will be carried out on arrival
and its result will be announced 12h later (at the latest).
