Case of Leprosy detected in Madeira

Madeira’s Regional Directorate of Health announced a case of Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) was detected in the Region. The patient is female adult who has been living in Madeira since January 2022. She had been infected after traveling to Brazil.

All required treatment has been provided and all her close contacts have been identified.

The local health authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, and have stressed that this disease is not easily transmitted, which means isolation is not usually required. Furthermore, they assured that the treatment is very effective and isolation is only recommended for those who are very close contacts and who have spent a long time with the infected patient.

Traffic disruption at Rua do Til

The Municipality of Funchal announced there will a traffic disruption until April 22nd at Rua do Til, on the stretch between Rua Dr. Ângelo Augusto da Silva and Rua Bartolomeu Perestrelo. There will temporary road signs and the PSP (Police) will be directing the contraflow traffic from 07h30 to 19h00. Drivers are asked to be understanding and to comply with the temporary signs.

Seafood Festival starting on Friday

The Seafood Festival will start on April 21st at Jardins do Lido (Lido Gardens), in Funchal. It will take place until May 1st. Its opening hours will be from 12h00 to 15h00 and from 18h00 to 22h00.

Chefs from Shellfish restaurants in Matosinhos, one of Portugal’s shellfish capital cities, will take part in the festival.

This festival had previously taken place in Câmara de Lobos.

The festival’s organisers promise to serve the best seafood and at different price ranges, including seafood rice, prawns à la Guilho or cooked in a traditional way, oysters, lobster, crab, and clams.

Used Vehicles Market

The Used Vehicles Market will start today (April 19th) and will take place until April 23rd.  It will take place at Madeira Tecnopolo and entry will be free of charge. Its opening hours will be from 10h00 to 22h00.

Extra Porto Santo ferry services on May 1st

Porto Santo Line informed there will be extra ferry services to and from Porto Santo on May 1st. These are intended to provide additional travel choices for passengers and to encourage more visitors to visit Porto Santo during that Bank Holiday.

The timetable of the ferry services on May 1st will be:

Funchal – Porto Santo: 08h00 & 16h30 (extra service)

Porto Santo – Funchal: 13h00 (extra service) & 20h00

Passengers wishing to amend the booking (free of charge) must do so by visiting one of the Porto Santo Line branches:

– Avenida do Mar e das Comunidades Madeirenses, number 20, Funchal (open from Monday to Friday – 08h30-18h00

– Estrada Monumental, number 175C, Funchal (open from Monday to Sunday – 09h-20h00)

– Cais do Funchal (open Monday to Sunday – 10h00-13h00 & 14h00-19h00)

– Rua D. Estevão de Alencastre, Loja 6/7, Porto Santo (open from Monday to Friday – 10h00-18h00)

Power cut

Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira (Madeira power supplier) announced there will be power cuts due to scheduled work on the electricity supply network. These cannot be postponed and will take place in the following days and places:
