Closure of escarpment overlooking Estrada dos Anjos
The Municipality of Ponta do Sol has been closed since March 13th and will remain closed until March 24th. The closure will happen daily from 08h30 to 17h00.
This is due to scheduled work to remove big blocks of rock in order to restore safety conditions for locals and visitors.
Pedestrians and vehicles will not be able to access Estrada dos Anjos, in the area between Bairro do Passo and Poios.
Residents and agricultural owners will have limited access to their properties. The Municipal workers carrying out the work must allow them access to their properties.

Madeira fire personnel received training in the Azores
Four personnel from different Fire Brigades in Madeira (Madeirenses, Santana, Calheta and Machico) took part in training in Terceira Island (Azores) between February 27th and March 9th.
They receive training to enable them to be the first to intervene in collapsed structures or similar buildings, to be organised while in a disaster area, to identify the location and identification of victims, to properly mark the appropriate locations when carrying out urban search and rescue operations, to do shoring quickly, and to carry out an initial structural assessment.
It was also announced that the Regional Civil Protection Service (Serviço Regional de Protecção Civil) would like to purchase additional Individual Protection Equipment for the personnel that took part in this training and some rescue tools and equipment. These will also enable the training of more teams that are capable of carrying out search and rescue operations in collapsed structures.
Warning on “Bloom” drug
José Manuel Rodrigues, the President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira (Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira) issued a warning against the dangers of new drugs that are becoming more used. One of the new drugs is a synthetic drug called “bloom”, that become more and more used in the Madeira Region. For instance, on March 8th there were 20 male victims of this drug being treated at Casa de Saúde São João de Deus.
Water supply disruptions
There will be a water supply disruption on March 16th, from 09h00 to 15h00, in Estrada dos Marmeleiros (Municipality of Funchal), due to scheduled work on the supply network in order to prevent water leaks. The following places will be affected:
– Estrada dos Marmeleiros (between the crossing to Estrada do Livramento and the northern access to Rua Cidade de Santos)
– Travessa das Lajes
– Beco do Pinheiro
– Rua Cidade de Santos (Impasse 3)
Another water supply disruption will take place on March 16th, from 14h00 to 18h00, in the Parish of Ilha, due to scheduled work on the supply network in order to prevent water leaks. The following places will be affected:
– Banda do Sol
– Ermida
– Garnel
– Lombada do Meio
– Lombo Grande
– Loural

Power cut
Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira (Madeira power supplier) announced there will be power cuts due to scheduled work on the electricity supply network. These cannot be postponed and will take place in the following days and places:
