Madeira Situation report by Daniel Fernandes Saturday 20th of June
Covid-19 update
There were no new cases yesterday. The number of cases remains 91. There are 89 recoveries and 2 active cases. There are 497 people under active monitoring and 589 people in self-monitoring. As of yesterday, there had been 1,545
suspected cases, 1,454 of which had come back negative.
As for Covid-19 testing, 20,178 samples from 18,147 people have been analysed at Laboratório de Patologia Clínica do SESARAM (Madeira Health Service lab). In the last seven days, 1,539 people were tested. Next week, more testing will be
carried out on health professionals.
In the last seven days, a total of 233 tests were carried out on passengers landing in Funchal and Porto Santo.
The SRS 24 helpline (Regional Health Service – 800 24 24 20) received 24 calls from Thursday to Friday. Overall, the total number of calls made to this helpline is 8,632.
The Covid-19 mental health helpline (219 212 399 – available every day from 9h00 to 21h00) that was set up to provide emotional and mental support to Madeira residents has received 1,366 calls, with 143 people being monitored.
Testing will be available in Lisbon and Porto for
Madeira-bound passengers
Pedro Ramos, the Madeira Health and Civil Protection Secretary, confirmed the Madeira Regional Government will sign a deal with a public laboratory in Lisbon, so that passengers flying to Madeira can be tested before the flight. Testing
will also be available for passengers flying from Porto. Each test will cost about €50 and will be paid for by the Madeira Regional Government. Ideally, all passengers would be tested before flying to Madeira. However, this idea is not
accepted by many governments and airlines, which means that the Madeira Regional Government has set up testing on arrival, to give tourism and the economy a chance to recover while reducing the risk of Covid-19 contagion to Madeira’s
residents.
TUI to bring Dutch tourists to Madeira & Luxair cancelled flights due to mandatory testing
Tourism to Madeira will reopen on the 1st of July. A Transavia flight, chartered by TUI, is scheduled to bring Dutch tourists to Funchal on the 2nd of July. Several flights from Germany are also scheduled, in addition to the return of
TAP and Easyjet flights from the Portuguese mainland.
On the other hand, Luxair cancelled its scheduled flights from Luxembourg because of the mandatory testing requirements in Madeira.
A reminder that from the 1st of July, all passengers landing in Funchal and Porto Santo must present evidence of a negative Covid-19 test that had been carried out up to 72h before the start of the journey. Alternatively, Covid-19
testing, paid for by the Madeira Regional Government, will be carried out on arrival and its result will be announced 12h later (at the latest).
Funchal Municipality in permanent contact with 3,000 elderly residents
In Mach, the Funchal Municipality set up a helpline
during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide support to elderly residents and to contact residents who were no longer able to visit several municipal facilities. Its aim was also to prevent loneliness and to help them cope with the fear of
being infected with Covid-19. Under this scheme, elderly residents were monitored daily by municipal services in areas such as social services, psychology and sociology. Their requests for support, in areas such as payment of water and
electricity bills, booking medical appointments at the local health centre, buying groceries and medication, were dealt with by other municipal services.
