By Mike Evans

Good morning and welcome to this week’s Algarve situation report. Obviously the major talking point in the past week has been the big fire at Gambelas, near Faro which then spread to the Quinta do Lago complex. The last time the region saw such a big fire was in 2021 when there was a similar size fire at Castro Marim. Thankfully we can report that there were no injuries to firefighters and civilians although a number of sheds in the grounds of properties in Quinta do Lago were destroyed. It was also reported by one of our own volunteers that some residences in the area were evacuated for reasons of safety and a number of roads around the complex were closed to all traffic. After the fire reignited on Friday it was finally brought under control and even now the area is being checked to make sure nothing can start again.
