Civil Protection of the Algarve prepares presidents of parish councils for emergency situations

The Algarve Regional Command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), started this Monday, the usual process of training the presidents of parish councils, at a stage when the region is preparing for the season of greater tourist influx. .

The Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command points out in a statement that, in this context, it has been promoting technical forums aimed at municipal executives and parish mayors. Initiatives that focus on the role of the junta president as a close representative of the population and knowledgeable of the territorial reality of his parish, “playing an important role in building a resilient community in the face of risks and vulnerabilities”.

In this action, the mayors are invited to get to know the main infrastructures of the Algarve’s strategic civil protection network, such as the Regional Command facilities, a guided tour of the helicopter base in permanent service in Loulé and the logistical support base ( BAL) in Quarteira. 

Air Force helicopter rescues man who suffered a stroke off Cabo de São Vicente

A man, who suffered a stroke while on board a ship sailing about 30 nautical miles west of Cape São Vicente, was rescued by the Portuguese Navy this Monday, 18 April.

According to the Navy, the alert was received around 8:30 am.

An Air Force EH-101 helicopter was deployed to the site to transport the man.

The passenger was transported to Figo Maduro airport in Lisbon, where an ambulance was waiting.

The patient was assisted at the scene and later taken to a hospital.

61-year-old man arrested in Albufeira night for drug trafficking

Suspect has already been brought to court.

On the night of Saturday, April 16, the Albufeira GNR arrested a 61-year-old man for drug trafficking, following an inspection in nightlife establishments.

The military detected an individual who was in possession of various drugs, proceeding with his arrest and seizure of 383 ecstasy tablets, 117 doses of cocaine, 27 doses of hashish, 27 doses of lime, a precision scale, two cell phones and 119 euros in cash.

The man was present at the Silves Judicial Court, being subject to periodic presentations to the authorities and being banned from attending the establishment where he was found.

The action was reinforced by the Intervention and Public Order Group (GIOP) of the Intervention Unit (UI).

GNR on the road with the “Moto GP” operation

The Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR), between 19 and 25 April, carries out a security operation and intensive road patrol, in order to guarantee the safety of the Moto GP, which takes place this weekend, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

Another objective is to prevent road accidents, involving two-wheel motor vehicles, with a special focus on the districts of Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal, Évora and Beja.

According to a statement from the GNR, a significant increase in the volume of motorcycle traffic is expected on the main access roads to the Algarve, due to the motorcycling event in Portimão, but also due to the long weekend ahead (25 April).

In terms of awareness, the Guarda Nacional Republicana says that it will reinforce the prevention messages of the #NãoSouDeFerro campaign, “to raise awareness, inform and alert drivers, especially those of two-wheeled motor vehicles, to the safety rules that must caution while driving”, awareness-raising initiatives are being carried out in some service areas from north to south of the country and in the vicinity of the Algarve International Circuit.

Guarda recalls that road accident data for the years 2020 and 2021 confirm that 1157 people were seriously affected or lost their lives in road accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles.
