The creation of a permanent team of foresters with the aim of strengthening the Civil Protection system in the municipality of Sintra was formalized on 10th January 2017 between the municipality and the society of Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua (PSML). “The team of foresters will be very important in the surveillance and prevention of fires in the Sintra mountain range,” said the Portuguese state’s Basílio Horta, the President of the municipality.
The team of foresters will work in the Sintra mountain range, in an area of 4000 hectares, but also in the rest of the county, including the Carregueira mountain range, whenever it is declared “alert, contingency or calamity” according to a protocol signed today between PSML and the municipality.
The mayor added that the hiring of five foresters and a forestry engineer, as well as the acquisition of equipment, represents a total investment that is around “200,000 euros” of the municipality and PSML.
According to the protocol the municipality pays the financial expenses related to the hiring of the five sappers, including initial training, as well as the fuel expenses of the vehicle and other equipment of the team.
