Portugal’s only national registered non-profit crime prevention association providing dedicated information and support services to the community

Introduction

Lisbon is Europe’s second-oldest capital (after Athens), once home to the world’s greatest explorers like Vasco da Gama, Pedro Alvares Cabral and Prince Henry the Navigator, becoming the first true world city, the capital of an empire spreading over all continents, from South America (Brazil) to Africa (Cape Verde, S. Tomé e Principe, Guiné, Angola, Mozambique) to Asia (Macao, Goa, Timor).

The former launch pad for many of the world’s greatest voyages is now where modern travellers discover one of Europe’s most soulful, captivating and picturesque capitals, built on a series of hills with scenic vistas from every angle.

Safe Communities Lisbon (SCL) is an operating name of Associação SCP Safe Communities Portugal, the country’s only registered national non-profit association providing a “one stop shop” of crime prevention information available to all members of the community.

SCP would like to thank the PSP, GNR, Judicial Police, SEF and ANPC in Lisbon for their collaboration in providing input to the pages on this website.

The aim of SCP is to promote safer communities, enhance security awareness and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime. It does this through a number of specific objectives covering police/public engagement; communication and awareness; as well as public support in the fight against crime.

For residents living in, or persons visiting Lisbon, and certain regions in Portugal, SCP has created specific “safe communities”, detailing the services it provides in those areas. The first of these was the Algarve and the second is Lisbon.

SCP works closely with the GNR, PSP, Judicial Police, SEF, ANPC and ASAE in Lisbon as well as various municipalities such as Cascais.
