On 7th February 1952, a contingent of the Public Security Police (PSP) was established in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, serving, protecting and providing security for its population. The newly inaugurated Municipal Council of Câmara de Lobos Police Station, was located in the heart of the bay of the Municipal Council, accommodated in a municipal building, located at Rua da Administração, No. 19.

Later, in February 1954, the District Command of Funchal refined its structure and the division was divided into in seven Sub-posts, covering the Municipal Council of Lobos, Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol, Calheta, São Vicente, Santa Cruz and Machico, in order to better serve the local population.

Almost five decades after intense and arduous operational activity in discharging its role in providing public security, the already very dilapidated building of the PSP Precinct of Câmara de Lobos underwent a considerable improvement, with the inauguration, on the 26th July, 2001, of modern police facilities, planned and built from scratch for the purpose of police use, located at Padre Manuel Juvenal Pita Ferreira Street.

In 2009, with the reorganisation of the Regional Command of Madeira, the PSP infrastructure, thanks to its adequate design, began to host the headquarters of the Police Division of Câmara de Lobos, having as integrated subunits the Câmara de Lobos Squadron, Criminal Investigation and the Transit Unit, and while deploying subunits, the areas of Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol, Calheta, Porto Moniz and São Vicente.
