GNR Torres Vedras

Introduction

Torres Vedras is a municipality in the district of Lisbon, approximately 50 kilometres north of the capital Lisbon in sub region of Oeste of the Centro region. The population in 2011 was 79,465 in an area of 407.15 km².

Fronting the Atlantic Ocean, Torre Vedres is bordered by the municipalities of Lourinhã (to the north), Alenquer (to the east), Sobral de Monte Agraço (to the southeast) and Mafra (to the south). A dispersed population, Torres Vedras includes 21 urban agglomerations, of which most have less than 200 inhabitants.

Due to its highly rural nature the area comes under the Command of Torres Vedras Division within the command structure of the GNR Lisbon Territorial Command. There are GNR posts at Lourinhã, Moita dos Ferreirosc, Santa Cruz and Sobral de Monte Agraço.
