Fiscal Police
The mission of Fiscal Police consists in the prevention and investigation of the revenues and costums infringements. One of our main tasks is the control of goods in circulation inside Madeira’s territory.
We carry out all the criminal investigations regarding these matters given by law and/or ordered by the judicial or administrative authorities.
Being in an Autonomic Region we have the special duty to coordinate with the Regional Government in its regarding matters.
We also engage in all “crime in progress” situations.
K9 Unit
The GNR’s K9 Unit is established in Madeira Autonomic Region since 1992 and their mission is to assist all the operational units.
The Comando Territorial da Madeira K9 Unit works mainly with two specialties: drug detection and search and rescue.
The drug detection canines are specially trained to detect different kinds of drugs, weapons and also paper-coin.
The search and rescue canines are prepared to operate in multiple environments, including high altitude rescues, and like drug detection canines are permanently in Madeira and Porto Santo islands.
Besides their operational duties they also collaborate with different entities towards public awareness in various places and events like schools, elderly care centres, social events, summer camps, etc.
