Missing Persons

Safe Communities Portugal provides a platform to help in the search for persons who have been reported missing in Portugal. These posts are normally at the request of law enforcement agencies either in Portugal or overseas or from Embassies.

Any requests for posts of missing persons on this site need supporting evidence that a report of the persons disappearance has been made to the appropriate police authority.

PSP “I’M HERE” – Missing Child Program

This Program has been developed should a child aged between 2 and 9 years of age goes missing whilst travelling in Europe. The PSP recommend that your child use the bracelet as it is validated by the other police in the EU. It helps identify missing children so they can be reunited with parents quickly.

The ”I’M HERE” – Children’s safety program: wristband is available, completely free of charge, at any PSP Police Station.

Missing Children

SOS-Children, operated under the Instituto de Apoio a Criança, is an institute for development of research and documentation for help and support to children. It operates a Hotline 116 000 SOS-Children Missing, under a protocol with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The organization has developed considerable expertise on this subject since 2004. UK National Crime Agency and International Missing Person Contacts

The UK’s National Crime Agency UK Missing Persons Bureau website, is a national and international point of contact for all missing persons and unidentified body investigations. They provide support and advice to police forces in order to resolve cases and act as a hub for the exchange of information and expertise in this area. They also maintain the national database of missing and unidentified records.

John Joyce

72 year old John Joyce was attending a 6 day pilgrimage in Fatima, Portugal. The small group he was travelling with arrived in Fatima on Monday 11th July, via flight to Lisbon from Gatwick, UK. On Friday 14th July the group met for breakfast then went to watch a video in a small studio about 100 metres from the hotel. John was at breakfast and at the video viewing, which finished at approximately 10.45am. After this the group went their separate ways. John was last seen walking towards a museum at about 11am. John is around 5ft 6ins (165 cm) tall and of large build. His hair is crew cut and balding and he is missing a lower denture. It is believed he was wearing black mid-calf shorts, a T-shirt and black sandals and a watch. Jorge Felipe Coelho da Costa

JORGE FELIPE COELHO DA COSTA went missing at 0600 hrs on Tuesday 23rd May 2017, when he was leaving Hospital Centrolar Vila Nova da Gaia Santos Silva, in Vila Nova da Gaia. He is suffering from severe bipolar disorder and psychois. He lives Guetim, Espinho. He is aged 65 years and is 174cm tall with grey hair and brown eyes. Joao Tiago Soares de Figueiredo Bettencourt Medeiros

Joao Medeiros was reported missing in Lisbon on 7th February 2013, then aged 24 years. He was born in Ponta Delgada, Portugal on 4th September 1988. He stands 1.7 meters high, has lack hair, brown eyes. If anyone recognizes him, please contact INTERPOL or any local police station.

Robert Burns

76 year old Robert Burns has lived at sea for many years. He sent his brother a letter which he received on 31st October 2015. In this letter he stated that he intended to travel from the Azores, Portugal to the Canary Islands. Portuguese coastguards have confirmed that he left Teerceira Island in the Azores on 1st November 2015 on his boat “The Roamer” but neither he nor his boat have been seen or heard of since. Robert would contact his brother from Port when he reached hos destination but no such message has been received. This is out of character. If anyone has information on his whereabouts please contact 0800 098 8485 in the UK.

Alistair Cruickshank

Alistair Cruickshank was last seen sailing a boat called “Golden Dawn” off the coast of Portugal/Spain on 29th October 2013. It is believed that he may have had plans to sail to the Caribbean via the Canaries In formation since he was reported missing could place Alaistair in Essaouira, Morocco, sometime in January 2014. Alistair is a white male, with short cropped blonde hair, aproximately 196cm tall. He may have grown a beard since his disappearance. Jon Anderson Edwards

Jon is a British citizen who went missing in Lagos sometime around 15th September 2014. He is aged 31 years and was originally from Arbroath Scotland. Since August 2014 he was working at the Rockfood Café, in Lagos. He failed to turn up for work on 19th September and this was reported to the PSP. His mobile phone, money and passport have been found in his apartment and his family are increasingly worried.  There are reports Jon has bumped his head, and may be in a hospital somewhere with the authorities unable to identify him. Mr. Wolfgang Kaiser (known as Wolfy)

Mr Wolfgang Kaiser was last seen in Aljezur on holiday on 18th March 2014. He was staying at Rua do Bairro Novo n.º 7, 8670-073 Aljezur. He is aged 25 years, has brown hair, is 185 cm in height and weighs 78 kgs. He is an Austrian national. He is known to enjoy surfing. His facebook page is www.facebook.com/wolfy.missed. Mr. Ricardo de Jesus Fernandes

Mr. Ricardo Fernandes was last seen in Lagos on 11th April 2014 and was staying at Rua da Calheta n.º 29, 8600-154 Luz, Lagos. He is aged 32 years, has dark brown eyes. It is reported that this man might be mentally unstable. Madeleine Beth McCann

Madeleine Beth McCann (born 12 May 2003) disappeared on the evening of Thursday, 3 May 2007, from her bedroom in an apartment in Praia da Luz, a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal. She was on holiday there from the UK with her parents, her younger twin siblings, and a group of seven family friends and their five children. The picture is an age progression image as she maybe aged 9.
