According to the updated information and available by IPMA, it is noted for the next 48 hours the persistence of conditions associated with hot, dry weather, aggravated by the strengthening of wind. In particular:
1. In the coastal regions, northwest winds up to 35 km / h with gusts of around 60 km / h in the afternoon and southwest temporarily along the south coast of the Algarve. Wind changing to the east tomorrow inland with moderate intensity (<30 km / h);
2. In the highlands of the north and center, moderate northeast winds to strong (<45Km / h) from the early afternoon, in particular above 800 m; thermal inversions above 500 m more located in the Minho and Douro Litoral region; relative air humidity below 15% in the interior.
These weather conditions hinder the suppression of fires and facilitate their spread
The weather and air quality associated with the occurrence of forest fires can have significant effects on public health, particularly the most vulnerable.
The ANPC therefore calls on the entire population to take EXTRA CARE and precautions to prevent forest fires. Preventative measures are the same as those issued earlier.
The National Civil Protection service said just over 4,000 firefighters supported by 26 water-dumping planes and 1,262 vehicles were attending 149 blazes of varying sizes across the country.
