Covid-19 update
There were 1,693 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (an average of 56 cases per day), and 5 Covid-19 deaths in the Region in September. Overall, the Region has had a total of 140,988 Covid-19 cases, 393 deaths, 140,198 recoveries, and 2,873,476 tests.
Civil Protection investment
The Madeira Regional Government invested €6M-€7M in the Civil Protection area, €700,000 of which in the provision of training to personnel from the Fire Service, the Regional Civil Protection Service, and the Portuguese Red Cross. This meant a total of 288 training courses (around 9,000 hours) were provided to around 3,700 personnel.
Enhanced training for ambulance drivers
The Regional Civil Protection Service (Serviço Regional de Proteção Civil) published a video containing advice and tips to help ambulance drivers drive more safely, quickly and efficiently when responding to emergency situations.
The Service has been providing Ambulance Defensive Driving (Condução Defensiva de Ambulância) courses to the Region’s Fire Service and to the Portuguese Red Cross.
The latest course took place between October 3rd and October 7th, and provided 12 emergency personnel with this enhanced training.

More Red Cross volunteers
The Madeira Delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross (Delegação da Madeira da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa) has 25 new volunteers. They had started their training at the start of the year. The end of their training culminated in a passing out ceremony.
New Commander of the Madeira Military Zone
Brigadier-General Luís Monsanto, the new Commander of the Madeira Military Zone (Comandante da Zona Militar da Madeira) has met Judge-Counsel Ireneu Barreto (Representative of the Portuguese Republic to the Autonomous Region of Madeira) at Palácio de São Lourenço. This was their first official meeting since Brigadier-General Monsanto’s appointment to the Madeira Military Zone. He replaced Major-General Pedro Sardinha. Brigadier-General Monsanto explained what his priorities will be and Ireneu Barreto wished him all the best and assured him there will be a total institutional cooperation.

Power cut
