Covid-19
In the seven days from Friday 1st July until Thursday 7th July there were 1,338 new positive cases of Covid-19 registered in the Azores, and a total of 3,277 tests performed. 2,051 people have recovered, and no new deaths have been recorded with the total still at 117. There are 1,501 active cases, 712 fewer than the previous week.
There are 37 patients in the region’s hospitals as of 8th of July with Covid, this includes 27 patients that are in hospital because of Covid. There are no patients in the ICU.
115826 people in the region have had Covid, that’s over 44% of the population.
Young tourist rescued after falling on Amora beach
A young 14-year-old German tourist was rescued last Saturday, July 9th, by elements of the “Sea-Watch” project and the Ponta Delgada Lifeguard Station, after having suffered an accidental fall while walking with family members in an area of difficult access on the beach of Amora, in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo.
Event of 3.0 on the Richter scale felt on the island of Faial
An earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale was felt today on the island of Faial, revealed the Azores Seism volcanic Information and Surveillance Centre (CIVISA)
In a statement, CIVISA reveals that the quake was registered at 15:19 (another hour in Lisbon), with the epicentre being recorded about 29 kilometres from Capelo, on the island of Faial.
According to the available information, the earthquake was felt with maximum intensity IV (Modified Mercalli scale) in the parish of Capelo.
2.4 magnitude earthquake felt on the island of São Jorge
An earthquake of magnitude 2.4 (Richter) was felt this Tuesday on the island of São Jorge, in the Azores, bringing the number of earthquakes perceived by the population since March to 298, said the Centre for Seismo volcanic Information and Surveillance of the Azores (CIVISA).
