Amadora

Amadora is a municipality and urbanized area in the northwest of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The population in 2011 was 175,136, covering an area of 23.78 km². It is the most densely populated municipality in Portugal. One of the largest urban communities in Portugal, Amadora forms a conurbation with Lisbon, sharing the same subway, bus and train networks. It is dominated by large apartment blocks, commercial parks, industrial areas and some headquarters of international companies. The municipality is divided into six parishes. It is policed by the PSP.

Cascais

Cascais is a coastal town and a municipality in Portugal, 30 kilometres west of Lisbon. It is a cosmopolitan suburb of the capital and one of the wealthiest municipalities in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 206,479 in an area of 97.40 km² . The former fishing village gained fame as a resort for Portugal’s royal family in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Nowadays, it is a popular vacation spot for both Portuguese and foreign tourists. Due to the large number of international residents in the area, Safe Communities Portugal has worked closely with the local PSP, as well as the Mayor’s office holding several seminars and participating in a civil protection event. The PSP have tourist post near the sea front.

Loures

Loures is a city and a municipality in the central Grande Lisboa Sub region. It is situated to the north of Lisbon. It was created on 26 July 1886 by a royal decree. The population in 2011 was 199,494, in an area of 167.24 km². The municipality is basically divided in three areas: the rural area, to the north (the parishes of Lousa, Fanhões, Bucelas, Santo Antão do Tojal and São Julião do Tojal), the urban one, to the south (Frielas, Loures and Santo António dos Cavaleiros) and the urban-industrial, to the east (Apelação, Bobadela, Camarate, Moscavide, Portela de Sacavém, Prior Velho, Sacavém, Santa Iria de Azóia, São João da Talha and Unhos).

Sintra

Sintra municipality and town is in the Grande Lisboa sub region (Lisbon Region) of Portugal, considered part of the Portuguese Riviera. The municipality contains two cities: Queluz and Agualva-Cacém. The population in 2011 was 377,835, in an area of 319.23 square kilometres. The parishes of the town of Sintra are dotted with royal retreats, estates, castles and other buildings, including the mediaeval Castelo dos Mouros, the Pena National Palace and the Sintra National Palace. From a policing point of view, the palace areas and the town itself as well as the urban area to the south east are under the command of the GNR, whereas the remainder of the municipality is under the jurisdiction of the PSP.

Vila Franca de Xira

Vila Franca de Xira is a municipality in the Lisbon District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 136,886, in an area of 318.19 km². Situated on the west bank of the Tagus River, 32 km north-east of the Portuguese capital Lisbon, Vila Franca de Xira is said to have been founded by French followers of Portugal’s first king, Afonso Henriques, around 1200. The town is mostly famous for its bull-running festivals in July and October. Nearby, the town’s Misericórdia church features striking 18th-century azulejos (glazed tiles). The town also has a Museum of Neo-Realism. For policing the municipality is under the jurisdiction of the PSP.

Oeiras

Oeiras is a municipality in western part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, sub region of Greater Lisbon. It is part of the urban area of Lisbon. The population in 2011 was 172,120, in an area of 45.88 km², making the municipality the fifth-most densely populated in Portugal. Oeiras is an important economic hub, being one of the most highly developed municipalities in the country. It has the highest GDP (Growth Domestic Product) in the country, being also the second municipality (right after Lisbon) with the highest purchasing power as well as the second one collecting taxes in the country. The municipality has the highest concentration of population with higher education in the country and the lowest unemployment rate in the Lisbon area
