Assignments and Competencies of the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service and Assignments and Competencies of SEF at the Border Posts

1. Surveillance and inspection of the border crossing posts, including the international zone of seaports and airports, and the movement of persons, with powers to prevent the landing of undocumented or irregular passengers and crew members from ships and aircraft;
2. Prevent the landing of passengers and crew members from ships and aircrafts arriving from seaports or airports considered to pose health risks, without clearance of the health authorities;
3. Check the movement of persons at the border crossing points, and prevent the entry into, and the exit from, national territory of persons who do not meet the legal requirements;
4. Give clearance to and check the entry of persons on board of ships and aircrafts;
5. Control and monitor the permanence and activities of foreign nationals throughout the entire national territory;
6. Conduct mobile controls and joint operations with Portuguese and Spanish counterpart law enforcement authorities
