GNR Silver Coast

History

When the National Republican Guard was created, on May 3, 1911, it was planned to be implemented in the then village of Caldas da Rainha.

This took effect on November 22, 1917, with the creation of a section  and the Caldas da Rainha Post became at the time, part of the 2nd Company (Lisbon), Battalion No. 2 (Lisbon).

Currently, in the City of Caldas da Rainha the Territorial Detachment of Caldas da Rainha is a subunit of the Territorial Command of Leiria, which integrates nine Territorial Posts, in six Municipalities: Caldas da Rainha, Bombarral, Óbidos, Peniche, Alcobaça, Benedita, Pataias , São Martinho do Porto and Valado dos Frades.

The Territorial Detachment of Caldas da Rainha also includes the Criminal Investigation Nucleus (NIC), the Environmental Protection Nucleus (NPA) and the Criminal Prevention and Community Policing Section (SPC).

Safe Communities Portugal meets regularly with the GNR concerning crime prevention and have jointly held seminars and “Program Connect” initiated by SCP to help engage the security forces with the community in these areas.
