Military of the Territorial Command of Madeira seized yesterday, January 9, about 24 kilos of cocaine,onn the Ribeiro Salgado Beach – Porto Santo.

As part of a surveillance operation in the Territorial Sea of the island of Porto Santo, the military detected the narcotic product near the sea coast, and seized 23,881 grams of cocaine, equivalent to 119,405 doses.

According to the GNR, this is highly unlikely that the drugs were destined for Madeira. They were likely deposited by traffickers because they feared they would be apprehended, and were destined elsewhere.

Madeira has the highest incidence rate of domestic violence per thousand inhabitants, according to the document “Domestic violence – 2015 Annual Report Monitoring”, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, published on 29 December. The rate stands at 4.09 per 1000 inhabitants with the second highest being Azorean archipelago with a incidence rate of 3.92

The incidence rate in the Algarve was 2.99 per thousand, and the average in the continent is 2.52 per thousand. As such it has the highest rate on the Mainland.  If Madeira and the Azores are included, the Algarve region “falls” to the third position in terms of incidence rates.

Lisbon (5903), Porto (4781), Setúbal (2284), Aveiro (1766) and Braga (1729) are the districts with the highest number of registered complaints, followed by Faro.

Beja had only 246 reports of domestic violence throughout the entire year in 2015. But Beja is also one of the least populous districts in the country. Of participations per 1000 inhabitants) was the one that grew the most at the national level.

The GNR Fiscal Action Unit, through the Detachment of Tax Action of Évora, seized, on January 6, more than 48 tons of tobacco leaf, in the district of Castelo Branco.

In the scope of the investigation house search and two non-domiciliary searches were conducted and the following seized:

• 48 073 kg of tobacco leaf packaged for sale to the public (equivalent to a tax owed to the Portuguese State of almost 8 million euros in the Special Tax on Consumption and VAT);
• 10 380 euros in cash;
• Various tobacco labeling and packaging materials.

The accused made use of agricultural facilities to store, process, package and distribute leaf tobacco to several retailers located in the national and Spanish territory, as well as in some cases directly to the public.

The 62-year-old detainee, indicted for committing crimes of qualified tax fraud and fraudulent introduction of qualified consumption, was made a defendant and, after being present at the Central Criminal Court, subject to the preventive detention order.

The action was supported by the Tax and Customs Authority, under the coordination of the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action

The Judicial Police through the Department of Criminal Investigation of Funchal, identified and detained a man aged 39 years, a resident in the district of Funchal, who is the subject of an European Arrest Warrant issued by the British authorities for tax evasion.

The detainee will be present at the Lisbon Court of Appeal with a view to his possible extradition.

The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) detained at the airport in Lisbon, in recent days, nine foreign nationals, in the scope of border control.

Three foreign citizens, aged 30, 28 and 20, were intercepted and detained by SEF, in control of departure from national territory, when they intended to travel to Ireland, identifying themselves with counterfeit Romanian, Greek and Italian identity cards.

Two foreign nationals, one man and one woman, respectively, who were traveling to Canada, with fake Italian passports and two other foreign nationals, both 39, were detained for using other people’s documents (Swedish and French passports). English). All detainees were present at the judicial authorities.

A 48-year-old foreign citizen was captured in pursuance of a European Arrest Warrant, which was sought to serve a seven-year prison sentence for fraudulent bankruptcy. Present at the Court of Appeal, he awaited the further terms of the proceedings at the prison establishment with the PJ.

GNR Criminal Investigation unit Montijo detained on 4th January in the locality of Moita, a man of 35 years for trafficking in narcotics.

  • 2 188 counterfeit goods;
  • 287 ammunition of various calibers.

  • 593 for driving with higher blood alcohol content than allowed by law;
