The Judicial Police, through the Criminal Investigation Department of Aveiro, have  detained a 23-year-old unemployed man, accused of child pornography, by the collecting and sharing, through the Internet, files portraying children in explicit sexual practices.

The investigation came as part of the international fight against child pornography in conjunction with foreign authorities.

It was found that the suspect has been actively engaged in the dissemination of videos and pornographic images in which children, most of them young children, are victims of sexual abuse.

It used for this purpose, programs of file-sharing in an Internet portal that requires the registration of users, so that the contents are only available to those who have an access code.

The investigation will continue to determine the connection of its criminal activity with third parties engaged in similar practices.

Following a house search conducted at the suspect’s home in the municipality of Mealhada, a portable computer was seized, which stored thousands of pornographic multimedia files of minors, obtained through the abovementioned modus operandi.

The detainee was present to the Judicial Authorities competent for judicial interrogation, having been applied the coercion measures of weekly presentations at the police station of the area of ​​residence, prohibition of Internet access and obligation to undergo psychiatric medical treatment.

As of February 1, competing for GNR and PSP will have costs. The Public Security Police (PSP) today 12th January 2017, detained a suspect in the shooting murder of a man in the parish of Monte, Funchal, said Comissario Fábio Castro.

The PSP said the suspect was detained in Largo da Fonte, in the parish of Monte, in Funchal, and offered no resistance.

The victim was the head of Monte’s Toboggan run, (a basket-driver, one of the island’s tourist attractions), who was shot in the wake of an argument with a colleague, said a source from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, reported to the Dirias de Noticias.

“The police were rushed to the scene, the person who was on the spot was found inside the profile of the suspect and made his arrest,” he said.

The commissioner said that the case was transferred to the Judicial Police, adding that he did not know the reasons for the incident, nor how many shots were fired or what gun was used.

“The criminal investigation will be carried out by the Judicial Police,” he concluded.

The incident occurred at the beginning of the basket carriages on Mount, near Largo da Igreja.

The Diario de Noticias is reporting that a small family business suspected to have carried around 500 immigrants, mainly from France to Portugal, has been dismantled by French police, security forces announced today.

Last weekend, four people were detained in the Paris region for “helping the entry, movement and irregular stay of a foreigner in France.”

Police had learned in May 2016 that more than 20 people of irregular Indian or Pakistani origin were taken aboard a truck driven by a Frenchwoman of Portuguese origin from La Courneuve (Seine-Saint-Denis, )on the outskirts of Paris) to Portugal.

The investigation revealed the “existence of a family structure that transited” immigrants from France to other Schengen countries, such as Spain and especially Portugal.

The organizer of this structure had as helpers his companion and his son to make the trips. The three were indicted and arrested, according to police.

According to the information obtained, the security forces believe that only between January and June 2016, 26 trips were made between France and Portugal. Last year, they estimate that it would have been approximately 60 trips in total, with 530 immigrants, to win about 132 thousand euros.

The Judicial Police, through the Department of Criminal Investigation of Funchal, with the collaboration of the PSP and in compliance with arrest warrants issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, have identified and detained a 32-year-old man for allegedly committing an attack on air transport safety.

The accused, with a saw, climbed the fence that delimits the infrastructure of radar of the company Aerial Navigation of Portugal installed in the island of Porto Santo and cut several cables of the communication system of that company.

As a result, there was a complete failure of communications between the control towers of Madeira and the Lisbon Air Traffic Control Centre, with implications for communications with aircraft flying over the area of ​​the Autonomous Region of Madeira at the time. After the incident the individual fled to Lisbon and then to France, from where he only recently returned.

The creation of a permanent team of foresters with the aim of strengthening the Civil Protection system in the municipality of Sintra was formalized on 10^th January 2017 between the municipality and the society of Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua (PSML). “The team of foresters will be very important in the surveillance and prevention of fires in the Sintra mountain range,” said the Portuguese state’s Basílio Horta, the President of the municipality.

The team of foresters will work in the Sintra mountain range, in an area of ​​4000 hectares, but also in the rest of the county, including the Carregueira mountain range, whenever it is declared “alert, contingency or calamity” according to a protocol signed today between PSML and the municipality.

The mayor added that the hiring of five foresters and a forestry engineer, as well as the acquisition of equipment, represents a total investment that is around “200,000 euros” of the municipality and PSML.

According to the protocol the municipality pays the financial expenses related to the hiring of the five sappers, including initial training, as well as the fuel expenses of the vehicle and other equipment of the team.

Accidents on Portuguese roads caused 11 dead in the first week of the year, three more than in the same period of 2016, according to data from the National Highway Safety Authority (ANSR).

According to data available on the ANSR website on Tuesday, 2292 accidents were recorded in the first week of the year (between 1 and 7 January), down 376 from the same period in 2016 (2668).

Of these 11 dead, nine were registered by the National Republican Guard (GNR) and two by the Public Security Police (PSP).

ANSR also reports that in the first week of the year 33 were seriously injured and 692 were slightly injured. Last year, in the same period, 22 seriously injured and 806 were injured. According to ANSR, the district with the most fatalities in the first week of the year was Aveiro (with four), followed by Braga, Bragança, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto and Viseu, all with one death each.

Regarding the number of accidents, Lisbon and Porto were the districts where most accidents occurred, 503 and 437, respectively. ANSR also reports that between January 8, 2016 and January 7 of this year, 450 were killed and 2057 seriously injured.

 

All these data relate to victims whose deaths occurred at the scene of the accident or on the way to the hospital.

An 87-year-old woman was attacked at her home in Estoril, Cascais, by two women who pretended to be EDP, according to a relative of the victim.

The old woman was beaten, tied up and robbed. The assault took place on 9th January in the Monday morning, in Rua Brito Camacho. The thieves tied the victim in the kitchen and took various household goods.

The Judicial Police, through the Department of Criminal Investigation of Aveiro, arrested two men, 26 and 27 years old, one of them a mechanic and the other factory worker, accused of  aggravated robbery with the use of a shotgun, which occurred on the night of 29 October 2015, in a residence in Pessegueiro do Vouga. The victims, mother and youngest son, were approached inside their residence and threatened with the firearm, wielded by the assailants, who, among other objects, took away a recently manufactured car parked in the garage. The car in question came later to be located abandoned, burnt out and totally destroyed. The detainees will be present to the competent Judicial Authorities in the District of Aveiro for judicial interrogation.

On 8^th January, 30 kg of Hashish, Cocaine, Liamba and Amphetamines), more than twenty-three thousand euros in ECB banknotes have been seized by the PSP Porto.

The Public Security Police Device of the Command Metropolitano do Porto, through the Division of Criminal Investigation, conducted the operation aimed at a large group of individuals who organized narcotics trafficking in the Greater Porto area.

The operation involved the execution of 28 domiciliary searches and 6 non-domiciliary searches in the areas of Porto, Gondomar and Vila Nova de Gaia, which resulted in: 10, arrests, eight men and two women, aged between 17 and 50 years of age.

The following was seized: narcotic called Hashish enough for about 141,847 individual doses (28 Kg’s); narcotic called Cocaine sufficient for about 10,510 individual doses; narcotic called Liamba sufficient for about 6,067 individual doses; cash € 23,540; one firearm (pistol with ammunition); one light passenger vehicle;  lcd’s, mobile phones, laptop computers, among other items and objects used in the direct sale of narcotics.
