The GNR Valencia Criminal Investigation Unit arrested today, 19th September, in Monção, a 35-year-old man who is the subject of a European arrest warrant. After information from Spanish law enforcement counterparts the man was arrested. He did not offer any resistance.
The individual, on the run for about a year, was serving a sentence in a Penitentiary Centre in Spain, for robbery with use of firearms at jewellers which occurred in Spain.
The detainee is appearing at the Court of Guimarães.
From 0700 hrs on 9th to 16th September The PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Police Command, in its area of responsibility, continuing the goals of preventing and deterring crime and offenses in general, conducted 165 police operations and arrested 222 citizens for various crimes:

On 30th August 2016 the Metropolitan Command PSP Lisbon, through the Division of PSP Cascais, following an investigation related to the commission of thefts in homes, arrested two men and a woman, aged between 38 and 41 years, as they prepared to leave a house that they had just burgled.
Upon being intercepted by the PSP the suspects were found with all objects stolen from that residence, including gold pieces, a laptop, an Mp3, a pen, a pair of cufflinks and two walkie-talkies. They were seized and have an estimated value of 3790 Euros.
After the search of the vehicle interior in which the suspects were to load and transport the stolen items, the PSP also discovered a digital camera, several clocks, Euros 1,110.00 in cash, gloves, screwdrivers and several changes of clothing. These were seized by the PSP as they are suspected to be related to the crime under investigation.
Following the procedural steps related to the arrests of the suspects, three house searches were undertaken in Lisbon, where 5,100.00 Euros as well as several articles of jewellery and high-end watches, suspected to be from several burglaries from residents were seized. Some pieces of jewellery have been recognized by their owners, who had filed a complaint for theft.
The detainees will be brought before the Court of West Lisbon – Cascais, for the first judicial questioning and application of the respective enforcement measures.
The Public Security Police asks the cooperation of victims of thefts in residences that occurred during the summer season in the municipalities of Cascais and Oeiras, to visit the premises of the PSP Criminal Investigation Unit Cascais, in order to identify any objects which have been stolen.

On 6th September the GNR Protection and Rescue Intervention Group (GIPS), in collaboration with the Military Territorial Office of Geres, rescued a man of 77 years lost in the Vale da Teixeira.
The man set out on foot from Leonte ending in Vila do Geres – Vilar da Veiga, a distance of 22 kms with a high level of difficulty. Without proper physical preparation for the trail, the man tried to follow the course of a stream but eventually get lost. The hotel where he was staying gave an alert.
Some 23 hours later they found the man who was physically weak and showing signs of fatigue, dehydration and a slight cut in the leg. They provided first aid, as well as a meal. The victim was sent to the Red Cross of Rio Caldo.

On 5th September the PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command through the Division of Criminal Investigation, at 00h10 in Monte Abraão in Sintra, arrested three men aged 24 to 48 years caught in the act of drug trafficking.
The suspects were intercepted in the course of a criminal investigation started 6 months ago, in which it was possible to identify a network that operated mainly in the Lisbon area, its main objective the sale of cocaine. The following was seized:
The detainees, with no criminal record, appeared 1st Section of the Criminal Court of the District of Lisbon, for the first court hearing, with an application for them to be remanded in prison pending trial.
The Judicial Police, through the Department of Criminal Investigation of the Guard, with the collaboration of GNR Pinhel have identified and arrested a man, strongly suspected of causing a forest fire in Bogalhal/Valbom in Pinhel municipality, since the start of the month.
The fire consumed an area of one hectare of pasture, bushes and trees, and put at risk the extensive surrounding forest area. Further destruction was avoided due to the prompt action of firefighters.
The fire is believed initiated by the detainee who has an apparent psychotic disorder and was acting out of revenge. The detainee, 29 years, with no known police record, will be present to the judicial authorities, for the first judicial interrogation and appropriate enforcement measures.
On 9th September the Judicial Police, through the Local Unit of Criminal Investigation of Vila Real, in collaboration with GNR Vila Real, identified and arrested of a man suspected of having caused a fire in the forest area of Vila Seca. – Vila Real.
The fire occurred on September 4, 2016, at about 18:15, endangering the forest area. Greater damage was avoided due to the rapid intervention of combat teams, including the firefighters and GNR. The arrested person is a 44 – year-old without any occupation, and will be brought before judicial interrogation for the application of enforcement measures.
This year the judicial Police has identified and detained 65 people for authoring the forest fire crime.
The GNR Command Beja arrested yesterday, September 8, eight subjects aged 21 and 48, on suspicion of robbery with use of firearm and attempted extortion in Beja.
In the operation two cars were intercepted each carrying four individual.
The persons are suspects of a robbery using a firearm, which took place on 8th of August in Ferreira do Alentejo and of attempted extortion perpetrated on Monday, September 5, in Ourique.
The victims were mainly elderly people living in isolated places.
The suspects were made defendants and subject to term of identity and residence.
